This time of year is the perfect time to gather with family and friends and celebrate the holidays. As you do so, it’s important to keep your braces in mind. This is because if you’re not careful, your holiday parties can damage your appliance and delay your perfect smile. Our orthodontist, Dr. Jacob Spendlove, would like to help you care for your braces during holiday parties by giving you the tips you need.

-Stay away from appliance-damaging foods: This is important because hard-to-eat, sticky, and chewy foods can all break your appliance by pulling the brackets off your teeth and bending the wires. These foods include those like caramel, toffee, apples, and more.

-Brush and floss: Remember to brush and floss after you have eaten. This can help you prevent plaque growth on and around your braces and it can also help you have a top-notch oral health.

-Wear a mouthguard: If your family and friends participate in high-contact sports and activities during your parties, then you need to protect your appliance and smile with a mouthguard. This can help you avoid oral injury if you get hit in the mouth.
