Malocclusions, also commonly called “bad bites”, refer to misalignments with your teeth and jaws. Malocclusions often are the result of numerous factors, many of which are out of your control. Unless they are trivial in nature, most malocclusions will need an orthodontic treatment to fix the ailment.

Malocclusions often occur with the front teeth in your mouth, known as the incisors. Common varieties of incisor malocclusions that can arise includes misplaced midlines, underbites (also called bulldog teeth), overbites (also called buck teeth and upper protrusions), deep bites, (also called closed bites), and open bites.

Many other types of malocclusions can occur within your mouth that may also require orthodontic treatments, including spacing issues and irregular gaps between teeth. Orthodontic treatments can also be used for malocclusions that result in teeth rising above the gum line in the wrong positions, which are referred to as transposition malocclusions, as well as jaw misalignments known as crossbites.
